Versatile Melodic and Rhythmic Devices for Blues Guitarists
All of our guitar heroes have their own personal creative approaches for improvising solos, crafting rhythm parts on the fly and composing new songs. This first volume of Blues Hooks, Riffs & Rhythms from Robben Ford reveals 20 of Robben’s own go-to melodic devices for developing solos, riff idea starters, rhythmic motifs and “hooks” that he artfully uses as creative approaches for his own music and performances.

I’ll first perform each hook over a track — showing you how I expand on my own ideas with variations on the theme — and then I’ll break down everything in detail, pointing out the creative concepts behind my musical decisions.

Robben will pass on a variety of soloing and rhythmic approaches including: Funky G7, Rockin’ Blue 5ths, Traditional Blues Dubs, Low-End Answer, Single String Riffin’, Rhythm Contrast, Double Stop Theme, Riff in 4ths, Playin’ With Dorian, Open String Lines, Three Note Hook, Magic Sam’s Motif, Slow Bendy Line, Staccato Movin’, Chicago Chording, Dirty Onion Riff, Buddy’s Vibe, Up & Down Double Stops, and The Big Setup.
Robben will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.
You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included to work with on your own.
