DesignBuilder是一款针对建筑能耗动态模拟程序（Energplus）开发的综合用户图形界面模拟软件。它可以应用在设计过程中的任何阶段，通过提供性能数据来优化设计和评估，甚至在设计初期整个设计还没确定时就可以开展。

DesignBuilder采用了易操作的OpenGL固体建模器。由此，在3D空间中配置「块」，通过拉伸、剪切可直观地进行建筑物模型的制作。可对建筑部件的厚度、房间的面积及体积进行可视化把握。此外，对模型的几 何学的形状和表面形状没有限制。
Designbuilder软件可以从ArchiCAD, Microstation, Revit以及其他支持gbxml格式的BIM软件中导入3-D模型。
使用数据模板，通过从下拉列表中选择，可以载入一般性建筑结构、建筑物内部的人物活动、HVAC（Heating、Ventilating and Air Conditioning.）及设计照明装置。同样类型的建筑物可反复使用，还能追加到模板。此功能与数据库连动，可对建筑物及其周边的区划追加大型变更，在设计、评价流程的阶段，可进行对各个建筑模型的个别详细设定。
模型编辑画面和环境性能数据可通过单击进行切换，无需外部模块的执行或数据载入即可对数据进行显示。
