ProgDVB是DVB节目是有严格的压缩标准的，因此它的格式也是固定的，但基于图像和声音的格式是多种多样的，因此也就有了众多的音频和视频格式，了解这些信息对于我们来说是非常有好处的，因为这也是决定节目质量好坏的重要依据。能显示音视频格式的软件有两种，一种是ProgDVB,另一种就是 MyTheatre。
在ProgDVB软件中，选中一个正常收看的节目，如亚太6号上的中央电视一台，打开工具栏上的文件菜单，选中下拉菜单中的属性，就出现了解码器信息（文中中所有此类图片都删去了右半部分，只显示左半部分），上面有详细的节目音频数据；图像格式720×576，帧率25Hz，宽高比为4：3，视频位率 504160B/s；音频格式：Layer-2,一个声道，位率132480bps。主要功能：
