Louis Matute’s fourth album, “Small Variations from the Previous Day,” is propelled by the emotionally catalyzing ‘Large Ensemble,’ which continually welcomes new members. The album looks towards Central America and Brazil, drawing inspiration from jazz and elegant pop, from folk to Saudade. Matute invited Brandee Younger and Gabi Hartmann as guests for one track each, and Lea Maria Fries for two pieces in the studio.
The ‘Large Ensemble’ comprises Andrew Audiger (piano), Léon Phal (saxophone), Zacharie Ksyk (trumpet), Virgile Rosselet (double bass), and Nathan Vandenbulcke (drums), who also contributed to the last album, “Our Folklore,” which was equally celebrated by audiences and critics alike. The album garnered accolades such as the ZKB Audience Jazz Award and the “Évidence” Prize from the Académie du Jazz.
