Alexandre da Costa is one of the few virtuosos to have launched his career playing two instruments: the violin and piano. He eventually decided to focus mainly on the violin, achieving great success with it as both a soloist and recitalist in a huge variety of repertory that takes in works by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini, Brahms, Bruch, Vieuxtemps, Bartók, Shostakovich, Schnittke, Glass, and countless others. He has also delved into crossover fare, with renditions of music by Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney. He has performed at many of the world’s leading concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Musikverein in Vienna, and Poly Theater in Beijing.
