据Eurogamer早先的报道，这款游戏的最大变化就是它加入了具有挑战性的多人模式，在这一模式下，同一张海盗地图上可以允许三位玩家在上面造建筑。玩家可以协力共建、互相扶持，如果“邪气攻心”，也不妨互相拆台。据说，贸易和科研等固有机制也已经得到了改进。
