Christoph Sietzen always finds it fascinating to see how composers treat different percussion instruments in their orchestral works. “It’s very difficult to make adequate use of the various facets of percussion instruments and to express those facets to the full. This clearly goes beyond pure effects.” To that extent he finds the present programme so interesting because of the different solutions that Dorman and Rautavaara have adopted. These are journeys not only round the world but also through time.
