《皇牌空战7：突击地平线》是1995年6月初次登场的《皇牌空战》系列最新作，不只是续作，而是以“新生（Rebirth）”为目标，采用“折翼的垂死”为关键字，展现在超高速飞行下将敌机化为粉尘的破坏演出与爽快战斗。

　　故事剧情与主要角色：游戏以2015 年的非洲为背景，故事叙述以“夺回非洲”为口号的反政府运动从东非蔓延至整个非洲大陆，当地政府向联合国请求援军以对抗沿海的反政府军与海盗。北大西洋公约组织（NATO）会员国于是决定派遣联军，在非洲各地展开作战。

不过，反政府军藉由现代化的军力与因地利而生的游击战术，取得势均力敌的局面，使战局陷入胶着。美国空军的威廉‧毕夏普（William Bishop）中校，与长年老友荷西‧古提雷兹（Jose Gutierrez）上尉一同率领“战狼（WarWolf）”小队参与作战，并被任命为包含了直升机部队与轰炸机部队的第108 特遣部队指挥官。

在他驻扎的非洲基地中，组成了包含法国空军皮埃尔‧拉普安特（Pierre Lapointe）将军所指挥的北约联军与俄国援军的多国部队。某天，参与游击队扫荡战的直升机部队，突然遭受强光与爆风的袭击而坠落，生还的数名士兵则是遭受严重的烧伤。此一事件导致“反政府军似乎开发出新型炸弹”的臆测谣言在基地中四处流传。

究竟反政府军是如何开发出这样需要高度技术的武器呢？就在此时，基地响起了防空警报的蜂鸣声…追逐新型炸弹的毕夏普一行人，让战场从非洲北上，一路延烧至全世界。
