Nexus 4 不是一个全功能的合成器插件。模拟建模、波表…振荡器都没有。但是它仍然是一个强大的带采样核心的合成器 rompler，可以给你的声音带来一些自己的特色。每个音色都由不同的采样源层组成。可以堆叠或分层，由单独的设置，包括滤波器等等。
这个更新是从界面开始的。它具有经过改进的用户界面，为每个层信号流提供了一个更加清晰、容易理解的视觉。在这里，你可以启用或禁用整个层，调整电平、声像等等。用户界面得到了更新，现在是基于矢量的，具有大小调整选项。reFX 承诺会在每个显示器上都有清晰明了的体验，不论显示器大小。
采样编辑选项没有扩充，但是效果器扩充了。除了 EQ、滤波器、混响、延迟、脉冲，它现在还有一个新的 Ableton Live 风格 OTT 压缩器和一个完全可定制的故障效果器。后者允许你绘制自己的形状。它们加入了新的用户界面中，可以让你对信号进行实时的视觉反馈。效果器可以通过拖动重新排列，整个效果链可以倍保存和加载。
