Countertenor Valer Sabadus is one of the world’s most successful artists of the baroque music scene. “One of the best countertenors of our day” (Fonoforum), “what he achieves to dizzying heights of naturalness, is simply overwhelming,” judges the press. Immediately for his first album at Sony Classical with opera arias by Gluck, he was awarded the 2015 ECHO Klassik.
For his new album with the renowned Ensemble Concerto Köln, he has selected arias written for probably the most famous castrato in music history, Farinelli (1705-1782). The title “Caro Gemello” – “Dear Gemini” refers to Farinelli’s deep friendship with the famous librettist Pietro Metastasio, from whose pen are the lyrics of almost all arias written for Farinelli, which can be heard on the album: from the opera »Adriano in Siria “by Giacomelli (1692-1740),” Ruggiero “by Hasse (1699-1783), the opera” La Nitetti “by Conforto (1718-1793),” La mort d’Abel “by Caldara or the Opera “Angelica et Medoro” by Porpora (1686-1768). There is also an aria composed by Farinelli himself: »Ecco quel fiero istante« from »La Partenza«
