Jazz
The Swedish-German singer and composer Anna. Luca grew up in a family of classical musicians, with the piano as her constant companion. Despite her great love of classical music, she sought freer and above all more direct forms of expression at an early age. She experimented with electronic music, pop and fell in love with the freedom of jazz
In the connection, or perhaps even more in the disinterest in any genre boundaries lies the attraction of Anna. Lucas music. So her new project Small Friendly Giant is above all a free, unsophisticated search for her own roots. Like her two languages, classical, pop and jazz are inseparably interwoven in her music. Anna Luca Mohrhenn has poured her own history into music, towards a melodic abstraction that jazz makes possible in such a miraculous way. Structure and outburst alternate again and again. Improvisation follows a composed, polyphonic order. Scandinavian-melancholic melodic arcs and rhythmically interlaced constructs can stand next to each other in an organic way
Written on the piano, arranged for a jazz quartet, Anna tells. Luca tells her stories in an emotional and touching way. Fairy tales blur with memories, urban worlds merge into dense coniferous forests and the desire to capture life for a moment runs through everything.
