《无主之地传说》由 Telltale Games 携手《无主之地》开发商共同制作，有着《无主之地》的世界观和背景，游戏同时新增两名角色，雄心勃勃的男主角 Rhys 和满嘴花言巧语的女骗子 Fiona ，男角色为海伯利昂（Hyperion）工作，拥有一只智能机械手臂，能通过其机械手臂进入各种电子产品的系统中盗取数据；而女角色则是一个机智聪明又花言巧语的骗子，最擅长和各类人路打交道。前作中的角色将悉数登场，而且故事也同样设定在潘多拉星球，讲述了帅哥杰克（Handsome Jack）在《无主之地2》垮台后，Fiona 和 Rhys 探索潘多拉星球的故事。

　　《无主之地传说》将围绕两名新主角展开，游戏将从两个不同的角度来讲诉整个故事，Telltale 并没有透露太多关于两位主角的故事线是怎样相互影响的，但是可以知道的是，故事最终的结果取决于玩家认为两位主角谁说的是真话，游戏通过对话选项来决定游戏的进程，不同的选择将会有多重不同的分支剧情，这点与《行尸走肉》和《与狼同行》的游戏系统是一样的。

　　故事开始，Fiona 和 Rhys 被一个神秘面具男指引发现了一个秘藏，两人开始争夺秘藏钥匙的保管权，但是后来发现 Rhys 也是幕后操纵者之一。在帅哥杰克（Handsome Jack）死后，海伯利昂（Hyperion）公司的内部各势力开始陷入混乱的权利争夺当中，Rhys 发现了集团争夺者 Vasquez 在潘多拉星球关于秘藏钥匙的秘密交易，他想要设法拿到这个钥匙…

　　游戏除了剧情的引导外还有动作射击等游戏元素，并且还会是冒险游戏和翻转视角的结合，从游戏风格上，更贴近传统的Telltale式风格，注重剧情和代入感，并呈现给玩家一个更广大的无主之地世界。
