《废土2》是一款角色扮演类游戏，废土2借由慈善网站Kickstarter募集到了足够的资金之后很快就要正式提上议程了。其开发商inXile的老板Brian Fargo和玩家分享了关于在《废土2》中加入社交功能的想法，他表示：“在玩游戏的时候，我非常喜欢和我的朋友分享我的经历，通过对话或者排行榜之类的。我很想知道我朋友的状态，他杀了多少敌人，用了多少弹药，他的等级以及其他任何与剧情无关的信息。”

在说这些的时候，他反复强调《废土2》一定会是一款传统的RPG游戏：“没有任何理由能让我们偏离这个方向，不过仍然有一些可以让游戏更加有趣的选择。实际上，我们之所以不做多人游戏的原因就是多人游戏会影响到游戏的叙事。”

他还承诺，所有《废土2》项目吸引的捐款都不会用于添加毫无意义的甚至减弱核心体验的功能，不过目前还有一些功能尚不确定。“有了这么多钱，我们可以做所有人都想做的事了：更庞大的世界，更多的内容，更丰富的角色对话，更好的画面效果还有更佳的音效。”
“我很想让玩家知道的一点是，我们正在考虑MOD制作工具的相关事宜，不过游戏内容全部完成之前是不可能分心去做这个的。”

《废土2》借由慈善网站Kickstarter的募捐而启动，这款游戏的所有开发都来自每一个玩家，希望开发商能负起责任来，做出能对得起玩家这些钱的游戏来。

《废土2》制作商Montgomery Markland已在游戏的Kickstarter页面更新上张贴出新动态，展示了游戏的世界地图，并讨论当玩家在地图区域内冒险时将有可能发生的状况。

根据Markland所说，在世界地图上旅行将受到“自然地理和致命的辐射云”威胁，所以记住这些危险因素，玩家在探索这个游戏模式时，需要寻找替代手段。
他说：“初步探索发生在一个3D地图内，它将即时用区域内具代表性的地理特征显示你周围的环境。当你在侦查环境时，重要的方位，定居点和网点将被显示出来。3D探索有点像《骑马与砍杀》或是《无冬之夜2:泽希尔风暴》”。
玩家将会发现在地图上探险时，废土是一个危险的地方，他们会遇到一些威胁如死于脱水。当水供应是基于队伍中的流浪者和水壶的数量时，玩家还得精通于水资源管理。
辐射中毒是另一种死法，所以玩家需要密切关注自己的盖革计数器。当然在废土你也有可能会被谋杀，但这取决于随机遭遇系统把各种危险的动物，突变体，雷达和机器人设置在什么时候突袭你。

inXile工作室正在制作的核战末世新作《废土2》日前更新了Kickstarter筹款页面日志条目，透露了本作中的探索机制，并简要介绍了游戏设计，地图编辑的基本原则。制作人 Montgomery Markland称，《废土2》强调的是探索，发现与求生。

游戏地图分为两部分，3D场景显示你周围的环境细节，2D模式显示整个区域的总体地形，建筑，资源和“地标”的位置。Markland 表示，“地标”是《废土2》中刺激区域，比如废弃矿洞和高速路入口路障等。不过无论你走在哪里，死亡都在等着你。

玩家不仅需要时刻警惕随机出现的怪物和其他人类，还必须时刻关注自己的辐射剂量表。地标四处都遍布辐射物质，如果误入高辐射地区，很可能会直接毙命。不仅要避免辐射，在《废土2》中，饮用水也是生存下去的必需品。

“如何喝水可是《废土2》中最具挑战最重要的事。你的储水量由你小队成员数量和他们携带水壶的数量决定，而你的饮用水消耗则会根据途径的地形发生改变。”

天哪，世界末日还真不好过呢。
