Like any other language, the language of the blues relies on a player’s command of its vocabulary coupled with their ability to express themselves creatively with that vocabulary. Stringing blues licks together and running pentatonic scales up and down over the changes may get you up and running quickly but that’s only the first step of your learning journey as a blues guitarist.
Seth Rosenbloom’s Blues Soloing Handbook picks up from there and takes you much further down the path. Leveraging what you already know, you’ll work on expressive vibrato techniques, bending accurately and tastefully, interval applications, sequencing pentatonic based lines, dynamics, outlining chord tones, chordal punctuations, and many other approaches that you’ll be able to put to use in your blues solos right away.
”For me, playing the blues is all about expressing emotions. What’s always drawn me to the genre is the fact that it allows for an extraordinarily wide range of emotion. That, I think, is the key to making great music overall, and great blues in particular.”
In this course, I’ll present what I personally consider to be 10 of the most important techniques and creative approaches for blues soloing and improvisation. We’ll then apply each of these concepts in a series of blues soloing performance studies ranging across some of the most popular blues feels — slow blues, uptown and mid-tempo shuffles, minor blues, rhumba feels, and other forms of the blues.”
A rapidly rising star on the blues scene, Seth earned a performance merit scholarship from Berklee College of Music by the time he was 16. After spending a few years as an active sideman and in demand clinician, he stepped into the spotlight with the release of his self-titled EP followed by a highly acclaimed, full-length project produced by Josh Smith. We’re thrilled to welcome Seth to the family with his first TrueFire course, Blues Soloing Handbook!
Seth guides you through 10 key approaches and techniques: Vibrato Technique, Bending Accuracy, Pentatonic & Ear Training, Call &, Response with Motifs, Outlining Chord Tones, Right Hand Dynamics & Control, BB King Style Lines, Albert King Style Lines, Pentatonic Sequencing, Chord Punctuations in Your Solos, and Tone & Gear Talk.
You’ll put everything into play over 7 soloing performance studies: Slow Blues in C#, Up Shuffle in Bb, Mid Shuffle in G, Crying Sky Slow Blues, Dynamic Minor Blues in B, King Size Rhumba in Ab, Laid Back Shuffle in F
Seth will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.
You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included to work with on your own.
Grab your guitar, and let’s dig in with Seth Rosenbloom!
