This is a comprehensive tutorial about Japanese animation style cel-shading. It’s divided into two modules. The first module will cover some basic software operation for cel-shading, includes explaining the Pencil+ material parameters, making cartoon stroke by Pencil+, lights and rendering settings of 3DS Max camera, specifications to make models and basic explanation of human body. The second module will cover how to use Pencil+ and 3DS Max to make complete game models with Japanese cartoon styles through cases in Never Gone.
CGdavid, who used to work at Seasun Games, is now the 3D director of Hippie, and is mainly responsible for the research of art stylization for company’s projects. He once participated various kinds of Next Generation projects like Kingdoms of Amalur from EA, computer games like Ancient Territory,mobile games like Never Gone.Among which, the mobile game Never Gone won the Best Visual Art Award in China. The lecturer spent a lot of time in the project to study and create a set of his own cel-shading methods which has been summarized and optimized.
